Rose-the Indian face of transgender

4,000 years of recorded Indian history of the transgender bestowing special powers to bring luck and fertility. The same transgender later faced harassment and discrimination from the society. But has the outlook changed after the Delhi High Court decriminalized homosexuality? Of course, it has. India can now boast of a transgender fashion model and a TV host. For the first time in television history, Indian viewers will get a chance to view a transgender anchor. Born as Venkatesan, 28 year old Rose, will be seen hosting Ippadikku Rose, making her the first transgender to be a TV show presenter. Rose will be seen on screen early in September launching a regional talk show launched by the Tamil channel, Star Vijay. ‘I am very excited. It is like a dream come true. It has been a dream project in my mind since so many months”, states Rose. By this show, Rose aims to make a strong presence and eliminate the discrimination that a transgender faces in the day to day life. At the age of 20, Rose took a firm decision when she realized that she is has the body of a male but the soul of a woman. Ever since she has been keen to do something for the upliftment of the people like her and with this TV show, that is what she aims. Already stacked with 26 shows in line, Star Vijay will broadcast the shows on weekends and will show Rose discussing sensitive issues cocktailed with light humor.
